Music Ministry

Worship Choir

The Worship Choir is for anyone who would like to participate in the worship leadership.  It is helpful to have a little bit of musical knowledge, but definitely not essential.  Our purpose is to join with others in expressing our praise to God and to be a blessing to others in the Church Family.

The Choir rehearses on Sunday evenings at 5:00 PM.  See Wayne, or some other choir member for details.  The Choir enhances the 10:30 worship experience on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of every month by assisting with the congregational singing and the presentation of special music.

Praise and Worship Team

The Praise and Worship Team provides music for both the 8:00 & 10:30 worship experiences on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.  They may also sing for the Fifth Sunday Breakfasts and other special events like the Church Picnic.  Their rehearsal times vary, and Carl Crawford coordinates this ministry.

Handbell Ministry – – Jubilee Ringers

Through the years, handbells has been a very important ministry to our worship, providing opportunities for as many as 30 people to use their gifts and talents in service to the church family.  In more recent years, with inclusion of the blended worship, we now focus upon one choir of eleven ringers.  If you would like to participate, see Wayne for information.

The Jubilee Ringers will rehearse from September to April on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 PM and possibly play on the first and third Sundays of the month.

Special Music

Solos, ensembles, and other groups may be included and scheduled in worship or at other special events throughout the year.  If you have a gift that you would like to share or be a blessing to God, contact Wayne for scheduling.

Meet Our Accompanists

As they give of themselves to serve our Church’s Needs

Julie Lewis has been a blessing to this church as pianist and organist since she was twelve years old. She serves primarily as our Church Organist, but also accompanies at the piano.  Julie is a graduate of William Jewell College with Piano Performance.  She also accompanies the Marshall Community Chorus.

Edith Pautz began serving in 1992 as pianist when we started the 8:00 Worship experience.  As a child and youth, she played for Gill Memorial Baptist Church.  Frank & Edith joined First Baptist in 1987 and have been involved in every aspect of the church’s ministry. She also accompanies the Marshall High School Choirs.

William Doolin, son of Wayne and Kay, has been assisting with accompaniment as needed for the last few years.  His primary responsibilities are to assist on Sunday evenings and to fill in when needed; but he has also assisted with Children’s Choir and Nursing Home ministry.  Will graduated from University of Central Missouri, Social Studies Education Major in May 2010.  He has also been a percussionist for the Marching Mules, our Praise and Worship Team, the Marshall Philharmonic, and the Marshall Municipal Band.

Janie Weber, accompanies our Praise and Worship Team from the keyboard and serves on the organ and piano as needed.  Janie grew up at First Baptist Church and raised her family in the church.  In 1984, she and her husband, Nelson, felt God’s leadership to pursue other areas of ministry.  They followed God’s leadership the Fall of 2009 to once again serve Him with us , and are very involved in the worship and ministry of our family.

Marian Frazier, assists us on Wednesday night as a volunteer accompanist, prior to our Wednesday night Prayer Meeting / Bible Study / Business Meeting.  We greatly appreciate her willingness.  Marian also serves as our Children’s Division Director for Sunday School and a Department Director.
Verna Sue Gibson assists First Baptist by serving as our pianist for our Wednesday evening Midweek Focus.  Verna Sue is married to John (Junior), is a member of the Berea Sunday School Class, directs our Meals on Wheels ministry, secretary for our Women on Mission, and a retired teacher from our Marshall Elementary Schools.
Pam King, serves our church as an assistant pianist, filling in as needed and playing regularly on Sunday evenings.  Pam is also involved in the Worship Choir and Jubilee Ringers.  She is a retired Kindergarten teacher from the Glasgow School District, but still enjoys substitute teaching and very willing to help out when needed.
